When I was at primary school in East Hull, our deputy head-teacher - Mr Jones - had a sign on the wall of his classroom, which said, ‘School days are the happiest days of your life.’

The greatest gift of God in Jesus is adoption.

In this special meal of holy communion, past present and future all meet in this one moment of grace.

Those angelic words are a rather good summary of the message of Christmas: Glory to God and on earth peace. And if I were forced to distil it even further, I would say the message of Christmas is this: peace on earth.

Have you ever found something important or valuable, that you didn’t know you had?

Never judge others, and never judge yourself: the job of judging belongs to Jesus. He frees us of that terrible responsibility.

You have to put yourself in situations where, if God doesn’t show up, you’re stuffed. Only then will you learn to rely on God’s power and strength, not your own.

God cares enough about this world to go through the difficulty of renewing it, instead of taking the easy way out and starting again from scratch. We should care that much as well.

Being Jesus’ witness means being filled with the Holy Spirit to be bold, inspired, relevant and interesting.

Jesus bound the devil by resisting his best efforts – and we can do the same; the same Holy Spirit that was in Jesus God has given to us.
