Waitomo Caves

This post was published on Monday 7 January 2019.

After the movie set tour we had a rather hair-raising drive across New Zealand to the Waitomo Caves, as the second of three experiences we bought as a package (Hobbiton Movie Set, Waitomo Caves and Te Puia – you’ll find out more about Te Puia tomorrow).

Waitomo Caves are famous for their glow worms – so our caving trip involved following a river through a number of caves and underground waterfalls, before floating underneath a canopy of glowing worms.

Sadly once again the cover photo is not mine – we weren’t allowed cameras with us, and refused to pay $35 for theirs – but it gives the idea. It was extremely cold, but good fun to scramble along a river, in the dark.
